摘要：There is growing evidence that population-level brain activity is often organized into propagating waves that are structured in both space and time. In this talk, I will present the new methods we have recently developed for the identification and analysis of multiple classes of wave patterns in neural population-level recordings. By combining modeling studies and data analysis, I will then illustrate how propagating waves with complex dynamics can emerge from cortical circuits, and how such waves provide a mechanistic account of neural response properties at different levels, including variable spike timing and changes of cortical activity states. In addition, I will show that propagating waves with fractional dynamics provide a new framework for understanding cortical oscillations and for implementing neural spatiotemporal coding.
