报告摘要:

New Zealand currently has eight Universities and all are ranked in the top 100 in the world (The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings). University of Auckland and University of Canterbury both have award winning engineering programmes that have made an impact not only in New Zealand but across the globe, especially in the area of renewable energy and power, and seismic design.  This talk will reflect on the University programmes as well as cover the innovative research and applications of electrical engineering in New Zealand, such as: seismic sensors, earthquake modeling to forecast risk and other hazards, and renewable energy which make up 81% of the electricity generated in New Zealand.

 

报告人简介:

Brandy Alger received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from University of Texas at San Antonio in 2011 and 2013 respectively.  Alger worked for the University of Texas at San Antonio from 2011-2015 as both Coordinator for Engineering Outreach and Assistant Director for Engineering Outreach, where she served as liaison for the College of Engineering and was the main driver for recruitment, outreach, and student success.  Currently, Alger works for the University of Canterbury located in Christchurch, New Zealand in the field of earthquake resilience outreach.  She works two top research institutes, Quake Centre and QuakeCoRE, to educate and communicate earthquake resilience and earthquake engineering at a national level by creating innovative and engaging programs for a wide scope of demographic populations. Alger works with top earthquake engineers/researchers to effectively communicate relevant information to the general public.  Alger is currently in charge of creating and running programmes that will educate communities about earthquake resilience and increase risk management in the event of a future natural disaster.
